How to Start Fresh When You Feel Stuck

Writer's picture: Lisa DunkLisa Dunk

Ever feel like you’re buried under a pile of “shoulds” and “to-dos” with no idea where to even begin? Been there. Sometimes, life gets so overwhelming that the idea of starting fresh feels impossible. But here’s the secret: you don’t have to tackle everything at once.

When I’ve felt stuck, I’ve learned that starting small is key. One of my favorite tricks? A brain dump. Grab a notebook (or your phone’s notes app) and write down everything swirling around in your head. No filter, no organization—just get it out. It’s amazing how much clarity you can find when you’re not carrying everything around in your brain.

Next, pick one thing. Not the most urgent or the biggest—just one thing that feels doable. Maybe it’s folding that pile of laundry or finally making that doctor’s appointment. Start there. Once you’ve done that one thing, celebrate it. Yes, really. Progress deserves to be acknowledged, no matter how small.

Finally, lean on your support system. Whether it’s a friend, a partner, or your online community (hi, that’s us!), don’t be afraid to ask for help or share your wins. Starting fresh doesn’t mean doing it alone.

This week, I challenge you to pick one small thing to tackle. Let me know what it is in the comments or shoot me an email. Remember, every little step forward counts.
